Historically, for the majority of people living during the late 15th and 16th centuries, a kirtle would have been the standard foundation garment. It is designed so that it can be worn either as a foundational garment OR over a chemise and petticoat to complete a fantasy look. This piece provides the same support structure as my Renaissance Faire Bodices, with spring steel boning at the lacing closures and synthetic whalebone throughout. The skirts are hand sewn to the interior of the bodice waist with separate closures for added security.
